Quick Care Guide

Care Difficulty: This plant has simple care needs.

Light requirements: Ficus Tineke prefers to be placed in a spot with bright, indirect light. However, this plant can also tolerate some lower light levels, though this can affect growth and variegation. Make sure to rotate your plant to make sure all parts get sufficient sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight as this can cause the leaves to burn.

Watering: Ficus elastica has specific watering needs. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. This plant does not like overwatering because it will cause yellow leaves and this will cause the leaves to drop. Make sure the soil has sufficient drainage and that the pot has drainage holes.

Humidity: The Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’ can do alright in the humidity of the average household, but will benefit from slightly higher humidity. Occasional misting or Grouping humidity-loving plants together can also help. A humidifier will also be beneficial.

Toxicity: This plant is toxic to pets & humans due to the latex in the sap.

Feeding: Can be fed once to twice a month in the growing season during spring and summer, but refrain from feeding in winter.

Repotting: Ficus elastica prefers to be slightly rootbound but can be repotted every 2 years or when it has significantly outgrown its current pot. Make sure to use a well-draining potting mix, and only go up one pot size, too big a pot can cause the plant to go into shock and hinder the plant.

Leaf health: As with all houseplants, the buildup of dust on the foliage can be detrimental, ensure you are wiping the leaves clean with a damp cloth every couple of weeks to remove any debris.
