Calathea zebrina has stunningly patterned ornate leaves that are elongated with alternating dark and light green stripes with a soft velvety texture. Similarly to the Calathea Louisae, this calathea has been reclassified as a ‘Goeppertia Zebrina’. Also known as a Zebra plant, it gets its name from the aesthetically pleasing stripes that pattern its foliage. Native to Thailand, it lives at the bottom of the canopy in tropical rainforest conditions. It can grow up to 2ft tall.
Rating- Moderate
Loves- Semi-shade is best, no direct sunlight. Needs high humidity so frequent misting is essential. Water regularly through spring-autumn and reduce in winter, allowing the soil to dry out a little.
Hates- Direct sunlight will scorch the leaves and fade the leaf colour and pattern!
