RATING: Moderately easy to care for. Zebra plants need a bit of love but can grow to up to 2ft tall if cared for properly.

LOVES: Calathea Zebrina enjoy semi-shade best, with no direct sunlight. They need high humidity so frequent misting is essential. Water regularly through spring-autumn and reduce in winter, allowing the soil to dry out a little.

HATES: Direct sunlight will scorch the leaves of your Zebra plant and fade the leaf colour and pattern!

SIZE (approx): Pot size 14cm.

  • A unique variety of Calathea, the Zebra Plant has stunningly patterned ornate leaves that are elongated with alternating dark and bright light green stripes with a soft velvety texture.

It gets its name from the aesthetically pleasing stripes that pattern its foliage. Native to Brazil it lives at the bottom of the canopy in tropical rainforest conditions and can grow up to 2ft tall.

  • Care Difficulty: Moderate care needs

Light requirements: Indirect sunlight to semi-shade will be the best position for this plant. Native to South America this plant grows under large trees so does not receive any direct sunlight, which can burn its leaves. Keep this plant away from draughts.

Watering: Likes slightly damp soil at all times, do not allow this plant to dry out completely. Water thoroughly and allow the top 1-2 inches to dry out between waterings. This plant prefers rainwater, but alternatively, you can leave tap water out to sit overnight to remove chemicals.

Humidity: Calathea Zebrina loves humidity so misting often is essential. Use a humidifier or place in the bathroom or kitchen where humidity is at its highest.

Toxicity: Calatheas are non-toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Enjoys a feed every 2 - 4 weeks in spring and summer, and stops in winter.

Repotting: Calatheas can be slow growers so re-pot every 2 years or when it becomes rootbound.
