  • The Calathea rufibara (Goeppertia rufibarba) has many wonderful wavy-edged tall-upright leaves, the underside of which has a velvety texture. Native to the Amazon rainforests in Brazil, as these Goeppertias mature the upper side of the foliage turns a darker green while the abaxial (underside of leaf) becomes an appealing maroon-burgundy colour.

  • Care Difficulty: This plant has simple care needs.

Light requirements: This plant likes a bright location, out of direct sun as this will burn the leaves.

Watering: Water thoroughly when the top of the soil feels dry. This plant does not like overwatering so make sure the soil has sufficient drainage and that the pot has drainage holes.

Humidity: A humid environment is a must for this plant, keep in the bathroom or kitchen where humidity is higher or make sure to mist regularly. Low humidity can cause browning edges.

Toxicity: Goeppertia is considered non-toxic to pets & humans.

Feeding: Likes to be fed once - twice a month during the growing season (spring-summer) and not at all during winter.

Repotting: Repot every year or when the roots have outgrown their current contain. Be sure only to go up one pot size so as not to shock your plant.
