  • This Goeppertia rufibarba syn. Calathea rufibarba, commonly known as a furry feather or velvet calathea, has wonderful wavy-edged tall-upright leaves that have multiple stalks, the underside of which has a silky texture.

As the plant matures the upper side of the foliage turns a darker green while the underside of it becomes an appealing maroon-burgandy colour. Native to the rainforests in Brazil where they grow under the forest canopy in humid conditions.

  • Care Difficulty: Easy to care for plants.

Light requirements: Goeppertia rufibarba like a partially sunny position with indirect light. Direct sunlight will cause the leaves to burn.

Watering: This plant does not like to dry out and prefers to have moist soil but not waterlogged. Water when the top two inches of soil are dry.

Humidity: Geoppertia rufibarba loves humidity. The edges of the leaves will turn brown and crispy if they don't receive enough humidity. Humidity can be improved with a humidifier or misting regularly. Alternatively, bathrooms and kitchens tend to provide a more humid environment.

Toxicity: Non-toxic to humans and pets.

Feeding: Enjoys a feed around 1-2 times a month in spring and summer. Stop in winter when the plant is not actively growing.

Repotting: Repot the plant if it is rootbound.
