Pilea spruceana (Silver tree plant)
Pilea spruceana or the ‘Silver tree plant’ is a beautiful plant from the mountainous areas of Bolivia and Peru. They have stunning moody-looking foliage that ranges from green to black with highlights of silver hence its common name, the leaves are crinkled and crumpled in texture and appearance. From the Urticaceae family which also contains the popular Pilea pepermiodes (Friendship plant). It was first described during the middle of the 18th century by Hugh Algernon Weddell and its specific epithet honours Richard Spruce, an English botanist.
RATING- Moderate
LOVES- Keep in a bright spot with no direct sunlight (This will scorch the leaves) Water roughly once a week with the aim of the keeping the soil moist but NOT waterlogged or soggy.
HATES- Over or under watering. You can keep this plan misted but it doesn’t require high levels humidity.
