RATING: Moderately easy to care for. Lipstick plants are fairly easy to maintain and look great when they flower.

LOVES: Aeschynanthus 'flearly Mona Lisa' enjoys high humidity, watering when the top two inches of soil are dry and a bright but sunless spot.

HATES: Dry air. A lack of humidity throughout the summer can cause the flowers on your Lipstick plant to fail.

SIZE (approx): Pot diameter 15cm.

  • Native to Malaysia and Indonesia, this fast-growing plant has glossy, green leaves growing on long hanging stems. It looks great trailing over a hanging basket or shelf, and when grown indoors the ‘Mona Lisa’ stems can grow up to 1 meter! The lipstick plant has red flowers that resemble miniature lipsticks- hence the common name.

  • Care Difficulty: This plant has moderate care needs.

Light requirements: Aeschynanthus ‘Mona Lisa’ prefers bright but indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause the leaves to burn.

Watering: Allow the soil to dry out a little between waterings. In winter, reduce watering to avoid root rot. This plant can withstand some drought conditions but not for long.

Humidity: Native to tropical rainforests, Lipstick plants prefer a humid environment. Places such as the bathrooms or kitchens will have higher humidity or make sure to frequently mist. A lack of humidity can cause the flowers to fail.

Toxicity: Non-Toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Enjoys a feed in spring and summer, and not in winter.
