Once recognised as a species of Opuntia, this Austrocylindropuntia is one of the 11 reclassified cacti. Native to the Peruvian- Andes, this plant is a lover of warm and bright locations. The trunk has several main branches, with areoles that contain clusters of spines. Along each of the branches multiple fleshy leaves grow. The Latin epithet subulata means awl-like and refers to the shape of the leaves.

RATING- Super Easy

LOVES- As with all desert cacti this plant will need a bright and sunny spot where possible, especially throughout winter. Fresh air circulation.

HATES- Shade, this plant will grow towards the light if it is too dark. Overwatering, one of the biggest cacti killers!, -water sparingly throughout spring-autumn and reduce in winter.
