The name "melanochrysum" means "black gold" and refers to "tiny golden sparkles" sometimes observed when the leaves of the adult plant (which are dark, almost black) are in sunlight. The young leaves emerge a pinky-brown and darken over time. Native to Columbia where is grows in the wet Andean foothills. This plant is absolutely stunning
RATING- Moderate
LOVES- Bright but in-direct light. Enjoys higher than normal humidity where possible and warmth (Room temp is sufficient). Needs consistent watering- water when the top 2-3 inches of soil have dried out.
HATES- Direct sun will scorch the leaves! Cannot stand soggy soil
