Strelitzia or ‘Bird of paradise’. Native to South Africa has large green leaves, that resemble those of the banana plant. The common name derives from the stunning flowers that bloom. The flowers of this Bird of Paradise are orange. This plant can flower once it has matured, between the age of 3-5 years.
RATING- Moderate
LOVES- Bright light and some direct sunlight is beneficial. Ensure the soil is consistently moist throughout most of the year, however allow to dry out a little in winter. Will enjoy warmth where possible.
HATES- Dry air- this plant loves humidity and would thrive in a conservatory or a glass house
