  • Named after the Lord Howe Islands, located off the East coast of Australia, the common name (Kentia palm) comes from the capital of the islands, Kentia. A popular houseplant dating back to Victorian times is known for its popularity in homes and palm courts. This plant was made famous by Queen Victoria.

The Kentia palm is a focal point in any home and is known for its robust nature and elegance, and its ability to grow up to 10 ft in height! The Howea Forsteriana is a faster grower than other Howea varieties, with erect stems and slightly arching foliage in vivid green hues. Kentia palms are a great addition to any home because of their air-purifying qualities and their ability to remove toxins from the air.

  • Care difficulty: Kentia palms are relatively easy to care for. This a great statement plant for beginners and can also tolerate some neglect.

Light requirements: Likes a bright spot away from direct sunlight as this can burn its leaves. Despite being able to tolerate some shade this plant will thrive with a little more light.

Watering: This plant likes its top 2- 3 inches to dry out before watering. Be careful not to overwater this plant or leave it standing in water as this can lead to root rot. Kentia palms are happy in average household temperatures (18 -24°C).

Humidity: This plant will be happy in a bathroom or kitchen where humidity is high. Alternatively, make sure you clean its leaves and mist this plant regularly to increase humidity. Kentias hates dry air so make sure it's placed away from any radiators.

Toxicity: This plant is safe for children and pets.

Feeding: Fertilize this plant every 2 - 4 weeks during spring and summer.

Repotting: Repot the Kentia palm every 2-3 years or when it has become rootbound.
