RATING: Moderate care level. Lepismium bolivianum is fairly easy to care for and can grow up to 1m in length!

LOVES: Forest Cacti enjoy bright but indirect sunlight and only need watering when the soil becomes dry.

HATES: Do not overwater your Jungle Cactus as they do not like to be sat in water for prolonged periods of time (this will cause the roots to rot).

  • This is a very interesting trailing cacti. It has an epiphytic lifestyle in the jungles of Bolivia. Typical of many jungle cacti and succulents it lives high up directly off trees and tree branches.

This variety has dark green flat fleshy stems, they can grow up to 1m in length! If they are happy in their environment they will flower. These plants will bring the tropics to any room, looking great whether hanging from the ceiling or cascading over a shelf.

  • Care Difficulty: This plant has moderate care needs.

Light requirements: Lepismium bolivianum likes bright but indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause the plant to burn. A few meters away from an east or west-facing window is ideal.

Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the top half of the soil to dry out between waterings, reducing further in winter. It is better to slightly underwater than overwater due to this plant's tendency for root rot.

Humidity: Can do well in average household conditions but will enjoy a boost of humidity when central heating is on. Group plants together or place them near a humidifier.

Toxicity: Toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Enjoys a feed around once a month in spring and summer.

Repotting: Lepismium bolivianum doesn't need to be repotted regularly. Repot every 3 to 4 years using a Cactus and succulent mix. Pot up one size bigger with a container with good drainage.
