  • Originating from Mexico and Guatemala, this cactus is columnar with blue-green matte colouring. Very easy to care for, and naturally appealing to view. It has a 5 rib formation, and spines grow along the edges of these ribs.

In Mexico, the fruit of this cactus is harvested and sold to be eaten. These cacti can branch, but it is uncommon in smaller plants.

  • Care Difficulty: This plant has easy care needs.

Light requirements: A sunny windowsill with bright light will suit this plant best. Too much sun can cause scorching.

Watering: Drought tolerant, water thoroughly and allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering further in winter, Myrtillo geometrizans do not like to sit in water.

Humidity: Prefers a dryer spot and dislikes cold draughts. Avoid placing it in more humid rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms, as this can cause problems to your plant.

Toxicity: Non-toxic to humans and pets - but does have very sharp spines- be careful when handling.

Feeding: Apply a liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer (growing season) but reduce it in winter. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer packaging for the dilution ratio.

Repotting: Repot when roots have filled the pot and are growing out of the container. Size up one to two inches bigger than its current container using a cacti/succulent mix. Make sure the pot has adequate drainage holes.
