  • A beautiful evergreen tree, native to southern China. The Radermachera gained popularity in the 1980's. The sculptural trunk leads up to an abundant, glossy green foliage that branches outwards and upwards. A beautiful mini tree that can be kept compact in the home by pruning. This plant loves having moist (not soggy) soil, as lots of moisture evaporates through its foliage.

  • Care Difficulty: This plant has easy-moderate care needs.

Light requirements: The Radermachera sinica requires bright but indirect sunlight. Too much of a shady spot will stunt the growth but too much direct sunlight will scorch the leaves.

Watering: Requires the soil to be kept moist. If kept too wet or allowed to completely dry out this plant will start to drop leaves and turn yellow. Allow the top third of the plant's soil to dry out between waterings, making sure you cut back on watering over winter.

Humidity: China doll plants are very popular as household plant because of their tolerance to dry air, meaning average household conditions are suitable for this plant. Ensure the plant is not located near a radiator or heat source as this will dry it out too much!

Toxicity: The Radermachera sinica is considered non-toxic to humans and pets.

Feeding: Will enjoy a feed every 2 weeks during its growing season in spring and summer and not at all during winter.

Repotting: Radermachera sinica can be repotted around every two years in spring to a pot that is one or two sizes up with good drainage. These plants don't mind being slightly rootbound due to the heightened risk they have of going into transplant shock when repotted.
