  • Schefflera Arboricola or Umbrella plant as it is more commonly known as has dark green oval-shaped leaves which are arranged in a star-like leaflet which droop slightly like an umbrella, therefore giving it its common name.

This plant originates from Taiwan, Australia and the surrounding areas and is a great plant for purifying the air. This plant is also said to have symbolic value, by obtaining positive energy and attracting wealth for those around it. This is a great plant for a beginner plant parent and can grow up to 1 - 2 meters when cared for correctly and can be trimmed back to encourage fullness.

  • are difficulty: An easy plant for beginners that can tolerate some neglect.

Light requirements: Umbrella plants like a bright corner near a window, indirect sunlight is best. Leaves will start to fall if this plant isn't given enough light!

Watering: this plant likes a good soak but make sure not to leave it sitting in water as this will lead to root rot and yellowing leaves. Water when the top couple of inches of soil feels dry. Will do well in normal household temperatures.

Humidity: This plant doesn't need misting as regularly as some other plants and does well in normal household humidity, mist once a week and wipe leaves clean.

Toxicity: Mildly toxic for humans and pets.

Feeding: Does not need much, fertilize once a year during the growing season.

Repotting: can be done once a year - check to see if the roots are poking out the bottom!
