Scindapsus pictus var. argyraeus (Satin Pothos / Silver Vine Pothos)

£14.00

RATING: Easy to care for. Scindapsus pictus is an evergreen climber and can be hung or trailed.

LOVES: Satin vines enjoy being watered once the top inch of soil has dried out and they also love a bright spot out of direct sunlight.

HATES: Poor light will fade the variegation on the leaves of your Silver Vine Pothos. These guys are from the hardy ‘pothos’ group and take little care and maintenance. They are also ideal for a shelf or hanger.

SIZE (approx): Pot diameter 12cm.

  • Scindapsus pictus originates from Malaysia to Indonesia but is a popular houseplant in much of Europe. It is an easy-care climber with aerial roots that form due to its natural growth being epiphytic (in the wild it grows upwards on tree trunks but is also known to trail along the forest floor).

A stunning plant with soft ‘leathery’ leaves with silver markings. In fact, the Latin ‘pictus’ means painted, referring to the silver variegation on the leaves. This variegation is known as blister variegation (this is where an air pocket exists between the top layer of the leaf and the chlorophyll) which reflects the sunlight, creating a shimmery silver appearance.

This fast-growing evergreen climber can be hung or trailed and can grow up to 4-10 feet long.

  • Care Difficulty: This plant has easy care needs.

Light requirements: Satin pothos prefer bright indirect light but can tolerate a slightly shadier spot, however, this can affect the variegation. Keep out of direct sunlight as this will scorch the leaves.

Watering: Water when the top 1-2 inches are dry. Make sure not to overwater this plant as this can cause root rot.

Humidity: Can tolerate average household humidity but to give it an extra boost you can increase the humidity by grouping plants together, misting or placing them in a kitchen or bathroom.

Toxicity: Toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Feeding is optimal during spring and summer but reduce in winter.

Repotting: Likes to be repotted once the plant's roots have outgrown its current container. Size up one to two inches bigger than its current container and make sure the pot has adequate drainage holes. The Scindapsus pictus can be grown easily from stem cuttings and likes to be pruned back during growth periods.
