  • Strelitzia are native to Southern African coastal forests, where they can grow up to 20 feet tall! As an indoor plant, they are more likely to grow to between 2 and 3 metres, with long sculptural stems and dark paddle-shaped leaves, making them a real statement plant for any home. This specific variety, Strelitzia Nicolai, is also known as a White Bird of Paradise or a Crane Plant due to its beautiful white flowers in the shape of flying birds.

  • Care difficulty: Moderate - Strelitzia can be a little tricky to care for.

Light requirements: Strelitzia needs bright light, ideally with several hours of direct light per day. They will thrive in conservatories, or by a south-facing window.

Watering: Keep the soil moist but not soggy, allowing the top inch or two of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in the winter when the plant is not actively growing.

Hardiness: Strelitzia prefers warm temperatures and high humidity, so be careful not to place them near a cold draft or a radiator that may dry them out.

Size: Pot diameter 27cm, plant height 165cm. Can grow up to 2 meters indoors.

Humidity: These plants love high humidity, and benefit from being misted.

    Toxicity: Toxic to pets.

Feeding: Feed once a month during the growing season (spring-summer) to encourage flowering.
