Botanical & Common Names
- Botanical name: Clivia miniata
- Common names: Bush lily

Background & Origin
Clivia miniata, commonly known as the Bush Lily, is native to the woodland regions of South Africa and Eswatini. It naturally grows beneath forest canopies, thriving in dappled shade and well-drained, leaf-rich soil. Discovered in the early 19th century and later named after Lady Charlotte Clive, Duchess of Northumberland, this striking plant became a favourite in Victorian conservatories. Its ability to tolerate lower light and periods of dryness reflects its adaptation to the forest floor, where it experiences seasonal rainfall. Over time, it has been widely cultivated and hybridised, leading to the vibrant orange forms most commonly seen today.

Light
- Best light: Bright indirect light

- Extra humidity helpful?: Yes, misting or placing near other plants can support healthy leaf growth.

Feeding

Toxicity
- Pet safe: Yes
- Notes: Keep out of reach of pets and small children to avoid damage to plants
