Botanical & Common Names
- Botanical name: Crassula ovata 'Hobbit'
- Common names: Ogre ears / Jade Plant / Money Plant

Background & Origin
Crassula ovata 'Hobbit' is a distinctive cultivar of the jade plant, native to the arid regions of South Africa. A mutation of Crassula ovata, it was developed in cultivation for its unusual tubular, trumpet-shaped leaves tipped in red. Similar to the ‘Horntree’ form but with shorter, thicker leaves, ‘Hobbit’ starts compact and gradually develops a thicker, woody trunk with age, giving it a miniature tree-like appearance. Its sculptural foliage and bonsai-like growth habit have made it a popular ornamental succulent worldwide.

Quick Care Guide

Care Difficulty: This plant has very easy care needs.

Light requirements: Crassula like a bright spot with some direct sunlight being beneficial. A sunny windowsill is the ideal place.

Watering: Like many succulents allow the soil to dry out between waterings, reducing further in winter. Do not let this plant sit in water as this will increase the chances of root rot.

Humidity: Does not need any additional humidity so will work well in average household conditions.

Toxicity: Toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Enjoys a feed around mid-spring during its growing season.

Repotting: Repot when it has outgrown its current container. Use a Cactus and succulent mix and pot up one size larger in a container with good drainage.
