Drosera aliciae (Alice's sundew)

This particular sundew is a compact carnivorous plant native to South Africa It's one of the easiest sundews to grow, making it a great choice for beginners and enthusiasts alike.

This charming plant forms a tight rosette of spoon-shaped leaves that are green with a reddish hue when exposed to bright light. Each leaf is covered in sticky red tentacles that glisten in the sun and trap unsuspecting insects, which the plant digests for nutrients. In spring, they may produce small pink flowers on slender stalks.It grows in layers, with older leaves naturally dying off as new ones emerge from the center. The best place to grow this sundew is in a greenhouse, conservatory, or a bright, sunny, south-facing windowsill. It thrives in consistently moist, nutrient-poor soil and requires distilled or rainwater to avoid mineral buildup. 

Care Difficulty: Moderate care needs.

Light: Sunshine Lover: They need lots of direct sunlight, at least 4-6 hours daily. They will need partial shade from direct sun during the heatwaves. If you don't have much direct sun then you can use a plant light.

Watering: Moist but Not Drenched: Use distilled water or ideally rainwater, keeping the soil moist but not soggy. You can also keep the pot on top of a tray and use the tray method.

Tray method: Place the pot in a dish with water, allowing the plant to absorb what it needs, top up the dish as the water is used. Avoid tap water and fertilisers.

Feeding: Feed with insects every 2-4 weeks during the growing season, careful not to over feed. This plants are normally quite good at catching there own insects.

Humidity and Temperature: Moderate Conditions: prefer humid environments (40-60% humidity) and cooler temperatures around 70F (21C) during the day and slightly cooler at night.

Autumn/Winter: Foliage can fall off or go brown, at this point cut off the old foliage. this is nothing to worry about.
They need a winters rest - can start to grow back in about February.

Toxicity: non-toxic to humans and most pets. However, it's best to prevent pets from ingesting them as consuming non-digestible plant material might cause discomfort.

Repotting:Signs of Overcrowding: Repot when the pot becomes crowded or when the plant outgrows its current container. Use an appropriate substrate.
