Epiphyllum gautem var. monstrosa (Curly locks orchid cactus) in hanging pot

This gorgeous and huge trailing Orchid cactus has long twisted green stems resembling curly hair hence the nickname 'Curly locks' The flowers are huge and showy, they open at night hence it's other nickname 'Night blooming orchid' and this is due to the fact that it is pollinated by moths and bats in its natural habitat. The plant also produces fruit which is juicy, sweet and edible!

Care Difficulty: Super easy to care for, brilliant plant for beginners as they don’t require much care.

Light requirements: Bright but indirect spot but , with some direct sunlight in the morning is ok but avoid the midday sun.

Watering: Unlike other cacti these jungle cacti prefer more water. Water thoroughly but allow this plants top half of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

Humidity: Loves humidity. Placing pots on a wet pebble tray can help. You can mist the area around the foliage although this will only increase humidity temporarily. Humidifiers are also beneficial to increase humidity. Kitchens or bathrooms are also good.

Toxicity: Non toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Enjoys being fed during Spring- Summer growth period. Always follow the instructions on your feed of choice.

Repotting: Repot around once every few years -check to see if the roots are coming out the bottom of the pot. Always repot after it has flowered.
