Background & Origin
Epiphyllum pumilum, commonly known as the Orchid Cactus, is an epiphytic cactus native to the tropical forests of Mexico and parts of Central America. Unlike desert cacti, it grows high in the branches of trees beneath the rainforest canopy, where it enjoys warmth, humidity and filtered light. It has long, flattened, trailing stems that make it ideal for hanging pots and shelves. When mature, it produces large, elegant white flowers that often bloom at night and are wonderfully fragrant.
