Epiphyllum pumilum (Orchid cactus) in hanging pot

This large trailing jungle cactus has long green, wavy, succulent stems. Native to tropical jungles from Mexico to Honduras, this cactus prefers a humid environment and more water than a desert cactus. Keep in a semi- sunny spot, out of direct sunlight and if the plant is happy it may even flower.

Care Difficulty: Super easy to care for, brilliant plant for beginners as they don’t require much care.

Light requirements: Bright but indirect spot but , with some direct sunlight in the morning is ok but avoid the midday sun.

Watering: Unlike other cacti these jungle cacti prefer more water. Water thoroughly but allow this plants top third of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

Humidity: Loves humidity. Placing pots on a wet pebble tray can help. You can mist the area around the foliage although this will only increase humidity temporarily. Humidifiers are also beneficial to increase humidity. Kitchens or bathrooms are also good.

Toxicity: Non toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Enjoys being fed during Spring- Summer growth period. Always follow the instructions on your feed of choice.

Repotting: Repot around once every few years -check to see if the roots are coming out the bottom of the pot. Always repot after it has flowered.
