Background & Origin
Euphorbia tirucalli, commonly known as the Pencil Cactus, is a striking succulent from the Euphorbiaceae family. It is native to Southern Africa and Eastern Africa, where it grows in warm, semi-arid tropical environments. Despite its cactus-like appearance, it is actually a succulent that develops tall, upright, pencil-thin stems which branch repeatedly to form a distinctive, sculptural shape. Its smooth, spineless green stems store water, helping the plant survive in dry climates, and over time it can grow into a tall, architectural plant that makes a bold statement indoors.
