Background & Origin
Haworthia retusa, commonly called the Star Cactus, is a succulent from the Asphodelaceae family, native to South Africa. Its fleshy, translucent leaves form a compact rosette with blunt tips that bend slightly backward, creating a star-like appearance. Similar to Haworthia cooperi, it showcases “windowed” leaf tips that allow sunlight to penetrate for photosynthesis. In spring and summer, it can produce small, delicate white flowers, adding subtle charm to its striking geometric form.
