Background & Origin
Oxalis triangularis, commonly known as the False Shamrock or Purple Shamrock, is a bulbous perennial native to South America, particularly Brazil. It grows in woodland and shaded environments where it produces distinctive triangular, deep purple leaves that fold up at night and open in daylight. In the right conditions, it also produces delicate pale pink or white flowers that rise above the foliage. Its striking colour and light-responsive movement make it a popular indoor ornamental plant.
