Background & Origin
Background and Origin

Peperomia obtusifolia ‘Obtipan’ is a compact, cultivated variety of the baby rubber plant, known for its small, rounded green leaves edged with warm brown tones. It was developed in Sappemeer, the Netherlands, through a cross between two unnamed Peperomia obtusifolia varieties in 2011, and selected for its distinctive foliage in 2012. Native to tropical regions of the Americas, the original species thrives in warm, sheltered environments, making this an attractive little houseplant for adding subtle colour and texture to your indoor jungle

This plant is a great choice if you:
- Love unusual foliage
- Want a compact plant for shelves or desks
- Prefer easy-care tropical houseplants

Light
- Best light: Semi shady spot to bright indirect light
- Avoid: Strong, direct sunlight

Watering
- Frequency: Water when the two thirds of the soil feels dry, using room temperature water.

Humidity
- Prefers: Can do well in normal household conditions but doesn't mind a bit of extra humidity.
- Extra humidity helpful?: Yes, misting or placing near other plants can support healthy leaf growth.

Feeding
- Feed with: A balanced houseplant fertiliser
- Frequency: Once or twice a month during spring and summer. No feeding is needed during autumn and winter.

Toxicity
- Pet safe:Yes
- Notes: Keep out of reach of pets and small children

Repotting
- How often: Every 2 -3 years
- Signs it’s needed: Roots growing out of the drainage holes, slower growth, or soil drying very quickly. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one to avoid overwatering.
