Background & Origin
Semponium is a unique hybrid created by crossing Sempervivum (Houseleek) with Aeonium, combining the best characteristics of both genera. Developed by breeder Jack Catlin, Semponiums feature striking rosettes, vibrant colours, and a more vigorous growth habit than many traditional succulents. Their foliage can range from deep burgundy and purple tones to bright greens, often intensifying in colour with sunlight. These modern hybrids are prized for their unusual appearance, compact growth, and collector appeal.
