Fancy a little plant surprise? Our Tillandsia Lucky Dip contains a randomly selected air plant from our collection, with lots of different varieties up for grabs. Each one is different, so you never quite know what you'll get!

Tillandsias are epiphytic air plants, meaning they don't need soil to grow. Their unusual shapes, colours and textures make them brilliant little plants for shelves, terrariums, hanging displays or simply showing off on their own.

Our Tillandsia collection is always changing, so your Lucky Dip will be a surprise! Varieties we've had in the collection include Aeranthos, Oaxacana, Argentea, Juncifolia, Tenuifolia, Magnusiana, Brachycaulos ‘Abdita’, Capitata ‘Peach’, Tricolour ‘Melanocrater’, Seleriana, Filifolia, Circinata and Juncea, amongst others.

Please note: Each lucky dip is selected at random, so the variety, size and appearance will vary.

Botanical & Common Names
- Botanical name: Tillandsia
- Common names: Air Plant

Background & Origin
Tillandsias are a diverse group of air plants belonging to the Bromeliaceae family, with over 700 species found naturally across Central and South America, Mexico and parts of the southern United States. Most grow as epiphytes, attaching themselves to trees, rocks and other surfaces rather than growing in soil.

Instead of relying on their roots to absorb water and nutrients, Tillandsias use tiny specialised structures on their leaves called trichomes to take in moisture from the air and rain. Their unusual shapes, silvery foliage and ability to live without soil have made them hugely popular as decorative houseplants.

Quick Care Guide

Is This Plant Right for You?
This plant is a great choice if you:
- Love unusual plants
- Don't want to deal with potting compost
- Have a bright spot with good airflow
- Enjoy plants with interesting shapes and textures
- Like a bit of a plant surprise!

Light
- Best light: Bright, indirect light with some gentle morning or evening sun
- Avoid: Deep shade and strong midday sun, particularly behind glass

Watering
- Frequency: Give the plant a thorough soak in water once a week, then shake off excess water and allow it to dry completely.
- Seasonal note: Water more frequently in warm, dry conditions and less frequently during cooler, darker months.

Important: Always allow your Tillandsia to dry fully after watering. Avoid leaving water trapped in the centre of the plant, as this can cause rot.

Humidity
- Prefers: Moderate humidity
- Extra humidity helpful?: Yes, but regular watering is more important than simply misting.

Feeding
- Feed with: Specialist Tillandsia or air plant fertiliser
- Frequency: Once a month during spring and summer, diluted according to the instructions.

Toxicity
- Pet safe: Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
- Notes: Individual varieties can differ, so discourage pets from chewing the plant.

Repotting
- How often: Never! Tillandsias do not need soil or traditional repotting.
- Signs it's needed: None – simply move or remount the plant if you'd like to change its display.
