Quick Care Guide

Is This Plant Right for You?
This plant is a great choice if you:
- Want a tropical-looking plant that can cope with UK conditions
- Have a sunny patio, balcony or garden
- Love architectural plants
- Want a long-lived statement plant
- Prefer relatively low-maintenance palms

Light
- Best light: Full sun to partial shade
- Avoid: Very dark positions and prolonged deep shade

Watering
- Frequency: Water regularly during spring and summer, allowing the surface of the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
- Seasonal note: Reduce watering during autumn and winter, particularly when grown outdoors in wet conditions. Established plants are reasonably drought tolerant.

Humidity
- Prefers: Average outdoor humidity
- Extra humidity helpful?: No. It is well adapted to normal outdoor conditions and doesn't require additional humidity.

Feeding
- Feed with: Palm fertiliser or a balanced slow-release fertiliser
- Frequency: Once or twice during spring and summer. No regular feeding is needed during winter.

Toxicity
- Pet safe: Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
- Notes: The tough, fibrous leaves and sharp leaf edges can still cause irritation or injury if handled roughly.

Repotting
- How often: Every 2–3 years when container-grown
- Signs it's needed: Roots emerging from drainage holes, very slow growth or the compost drying out unusually quickly. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the existing one and use a free-draining, loam-based compost.
