Notocactus schlosseri (Schlossers cacti) British grown cactus

Notocactus schlosseri (Schlossers cacti) a British grown cactus, named after the person who discovered it - Hugo Schlosser. Originally from rocky grasslands of Uruguay, it lives at a high altitudes and often experiences dry winters and rainy summers. It starts off globular but changes to an upright cylindrical cacti it can reach up to 20cm. An ever changing cacti, the central spines start orange and change to brown and the radial ones white to yellow as its ages, which is contrasted against its dark green of the stem. These help protect from strong sun and predators. This cacti produces yellow bell shaped flowers in the summer.

Care Difficulty: Super easy to care for, brilliant plant for beginners as they don't require much care.

Light requirements: Warm bright sunny spot, with some direct sunlight being ideal. A south facing windowsill is ideal.

Watering: Water thoroughly but allow this plant to dry out completely between waterings. Drought tolerant, its best to underwater then to overwater. Reduce watering in winter. Can tolerate as low as -7C for very short periods.

Humidity: Does not need any extra humidity.

Toxicity: Non toxic to humans and pets.

Feeding: Enjoys being fed during Spring- Summer growth period. Always follow the instructions on your feed of choice. A cactus feed is best.

Repotting: Repot around once every year or so -check to see if the roots are coming out the bottom of the pot.
