Background & Origin
Oxalis deppei ‘Iron Cross’ is a bulbous ornamental plant native to Mexico. It is loved for its clover-like green leaves, each marked with a deep burgundy cross at the centre, giving the plant its distinctive name. During the growing season, it produces delicate pink flowers that rise above the foliage. Like other Oxalis species, the leaves respond to light by opening during the day and folding closed at night. It naturally experiences a dormancy period as part of its growth cycle.
